In the spring of 2018, the Morean Arts Center began a community-based arts program with James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital (JAHVH), one of several clinical sites for Creative Forces: NEA Military Healing Arts Network.  The Network, is a partnership among the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA), the U.S. Department of Defense, and Department of Veteran Affairs and state agencies that serve the special needs of military patients and veterans who have been diagnosed with traumatic brain injury and psychological health conditions such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The network consists of doctors, creative arts therapists, artists, arts organization staff and community members who believe in the transformative and restorative powers of the arts.  See the Operation: Art of Valor 2021 Memorial Day Art Exhibition

As the regional community-based arts partner the Morean Arts Center initially offered glassblowing and glass art classes in their Morean Glass Studios.  Veteran Chris Stowe, saw the particular benefit of bringing the art of glass blowing to Veterans. With the support and partnership of the JAHVH in Tampa, Art of Valor quickly developed into a structured course with a curriculum consisting of six levels of instruction. Studies completed by the University of South Florida Graduate Psychology program revealed that the developed glass art program was especially valuable in serving the needs of the military and veteran population through structured, hands-on learning that focuses on improving cognition, social interaction, physical dexterity, teamwork and confidence building. The AOV Glass Artists meet in the hot shop most Sundays. Veterans interested in learning more are encouraged to contact groupsales@moreanartscenter.org.

Come and Play in Clay! Any Friday night from 7-9pm.

Bring your favorite beverage and a sense of humor! Be prepared to get dirty! We'll provide the clay, tools, equipment and instructor. We welcome friends, your significant others, or a small group for a fun get-together! You'll select your favorite piece at the end of class and we will bisque and glaze it! Finished pieces are available for pick-up approximately 3 weeks after class.

Teen Darkroom Summer Camp 2024

In this exciting camp, teens will develop their creativity in several exciting photographic ways to discover the world around them. They'll learn to explore their own personal vision by experimenting with new creative methods. Everyone will get to use vintage film cameras, modern instant cameras, professional digital cameras, as well as their personal phone cameras in a variety of exercises. Learning traditional film and darkroom methods, as well as some cutting edge digital skills, will enable them to combine techniques old and new, for a fresh view on image-making. All cameras & supplies are provided.

Teen Playing with Fire Summer Camp 2024

Playing with Fire...Jewelry Intensive (Instructor: Brenda Gregory)
Students will learn basic skills in Metalsmithing while being introduced to equipment, materials, tools, studio safety, and basic design. The fundamental jewelry making skills of filing, sawing, texturing with a rolling mill and torch soldering will be developed. Each week new skills will be incorporated into a new project. Students will complete 2-3 pieces of jewelry using copper, brass and sterling silver. Playing with Fire is offered several times throughout the summer. Recommended to register for only 1 week, as the curriculum will be repeated week-to-week.

Teen Glass Summer Camp 2024

Explore glassblowing and glass fusing through concentrated instruction from our visual arts faculty culminating with a visit to the Chihuly Collection. Try out new ideas, learn the language and explore various processes while exploring all possibilities of glass.

This camp is offered multiple times over the course of the summer. It is recommended to register
for only 1 week of Glass Camp as the curriculum will be repeated week-to-week.

At 11am, the 4 judges will work their way from booth-to-booth, sampling a mini-cupcake each, and will give live feedback before the public arrives. Winners will be announced at 3pm. 

First Place winners in each category receive a handcrafted cupcake trophy made by our glass-blowing artists + a gift certificate to Jackson's Bistro. Awards announced at 3 p.m. 

New Award: Our "Overall Best Cupcake" winner will be awarded a coveted glass-blown cupcake trophy + will have the opportunity to feature their flavor at Jackson's Bistro!

 Choose your own colors, lay out the colored frit (granulated glass) in the desired pattern on the marver (flat steel surface). Then, with the assistance of a professional gaffer (glassblower) gather up molten glass, adhere the color, then heat, shape, and mold a burning glass heart.

This is a FREE, weekly, family event for children of all ages!

Children must be accompanied by their parent. No drop off allowed.

Campers will learn all about the famous artist Dale Chihuly, the art of glass blowing, and glass art. Camper’s will also have the opportunity to visit the Chihuly Collection and participate in a docent led tour.

Camper’s will then create Chihuly inspired art masterpieces that they will take home!

Welcome to Morean Memory Morning Tours!

Please Register for every member in your party. 

MEET AT THE CHIHULY COLLECTION - 720 Central Ave at 9AM

2 hour street parking available on Central Avenue OR you can park in the Publix Parking Garage on the 4th floor of the parking garage.

*Private tours; the Museum is closed to the Public during this programming.

Program is for those living with dementia and their care partners.

The tour will be 30 minutes and then will be followed by a 30-minute art project that relates to what was discussed on the tour.

Max group size is 8 students with 8 care partners, so 16 total per program.

Art project will be held directly after at the Morean Arts Center. 

We are so happy to create space for this amazing program, and to share a meaningful connection with you at the Morean through art! 

Funding for this project has been provided by the Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas
