PRINTMAKING WITHOUT A PRESS WITH ARTIST-INSTRUCTOR SUZANNE BENTON

Students learn, experiment and practice “printmaking-without-a-press,” using inking, line, painterly, stencil techniques to create a series of monoprints. We begin with what Gauguin tabbed as “oil transfers” and will then experiment with other time-tested monoprinting methods. Students set up a work space that can be duplicated for further printmaking at home.. We work with oil-based etching inks and clear acrylic printmaking plates. Available and easy-to-make tools act as the printing pressure. The workshop includes demonstrations, examples of hand-pressed prints, and dialogue with and between students. Students will create a variety of prints and gain an abiding knowledge of printmaking.
